It was nice to see a 'status update' in the papers today about Wang Chieh; he of course; the famous Taiwanese singer back in the 80s/90s who was also known as the 'King of Melancholy' for his very sad and depressing songs that almost sounded like he was gonna commit suicide lol...
Strangely enough; there was great beauty in his songs; and it wasn't long that I was 'hooked' to this kind of beautiful melancholy that had just great melodies intertwined with it. I think he broke out with 'One Game One Dream'; going on to establish a list of songs as his popularity (and unique style) sky-rocketed.
My personal favourite of his would be 'Shadow of Her'; with strong mention for the ethereal 'Visions of You in the Red Dust' and the shambolic 'Dreaming in a Dreamless Night' and 'Could I Really Have Nothing'. And of course that seminal song I still remember hearing and loving back in the day - 'You Are My Everlasting Pain' which brought the house down.
