For those of a certain ilk (read: age); you would remember the famous quintet of Real Madrid footballers who revolutionised the game in both Spain and the world. Nicknamed 'La Quinta del Buitre' (The Vulture Squadron); they comprised star striker Emilio Butragueno; dashing midfielder Michel; venerable defender Manuel Sanchis; Miguel Pardeza & Rafael Vazquez; and they led Real to a stunning period of success that included five consecutive La Liga titles; however, they never managed to win the European Cup.
I remember the best Emilio Butragueno; as he was the star striker for Spain in the first World Cup I watched in 1986 and was renowned as one of the deadliest strikers in the world; and of course he scored 4 goals in that never-to-be-forgotten match against highly-fancied Denmark that Spain won 5-1. Also Michel was at the heart of that fearsome Real Madrid side; featuring heavily in that midfield and oozing charisma both on-field and off.
