Bayern Stay United Over Union

Bayern Munich produced a professional performance to beat Union Berlin 2-0 & regain their four-point lead over Borussia Dortmund. They were not quite at their best; perhaps still feeling their way back after the coronavirus pandemic; but were still good enough to beat this season's surprise package Union Berlin.

The home side have made their name this season playing a rugged; physical style of football; and for large parts of this game; they did make life pretty tough for their illustrious opponents and were never out of it.

Nevertheless; Bayern are a consummate team and in Thiago Alcantara & Joshua Kimmich; they have a superb midfield combination able to rival the world's best. The match was still in the balance five minutes before the break; when a rare mistake from Union's experienced central defender Neven Subotic gave a penalty to Bayern after a mis-timed challenge on Leon Goretzka. Up stepped top scorer Robert Lewandowski who made no mistake from the spot.

In the second half; it was pretty close again until 10 minutes from time; when French World Cup-winner Benjamin Pavard rose brilliantly to head home Joshua Kimmich's right-wing corner. It was just reward for Man-Of-The-Match Pavard; who had already gone close twice with a similar header & powerful shot.
