Early Havertz

Bayer Leverkusen stamped their credentials for the second consecutive time after the coronovirus pandemic; producing an impressive 3-1 away victory over fellow Champions League-contenders Borussia Monchengladbach.

And it was their 20-year old superstar Kai Havertz who was again the star of the show; dropping deep from his forward role to link up play; being intelligent all-round and scoring the first two goals to boot. Marcus Thuram; son of French World Cup-winning legend Lilian; equalised for the home team early in the second half; but it was defensive midfielder Sven Bender who ensured the points for Leverkusen; heading home a brilliant free-kick from Kerem Demirbay nine minutes from time.
