This El Clasico held on 1 Mar 2020 was a somewhat strange affair: tentative & chess-like in the first half; explosive & riveting in the second. Barcelona may have edged it in terms of possession in the first half; but it was all too close to call.
In the second; Real's all-out commitment would come to the fore; as they won all the second balls and battled ferociously in front of a deafening Santiago Bernabeu. And it was the precocious 19-year-old winger Vinicius Junior who came to the fore; receiving an inspired through-ball from Toni Kroos and firing in at the angle past Marc-Andre ter Stegen to send the home fans into raptures. It was a poor piece of defending from Gerard Pique; who stayed off and afforded Vinicius too much room for the shot.
Substitute Mariano Diaz came on & made an instant impact; turning Samuel Umtiti brilliantly on the right flank before striding on and finishing confidently for Real's second. The celebration of Sergio Ramos & gang said it all; as Real grabbed a vital win over the arch-enemy in this amazing evolving battle for the La Liga crown.
