We've seen the Jordi Albas of the world; the Raphael Guerreiros; the Renan Lodis; and the Nicolas Tagliaficos. But to me: the best left-back in the world right now has to be Bayern Munich's Alphonso Davies; the 19-year old Canadian international who is displaying a maturity well beyond his tender years...
A regular starter now for Bayern; he is playing a big part in their surge up the table; on course to be crowned Bundesliga champions for a record-extending 8th consecutive time. Converted from a winger; he came from Vancouver Whitecaps in Major League Soccer (MLS) in the US in a record-breaking deal; and has not looked back since.
He is good both defensively and going forward; but what I really like about him is his powers of recovery; his sheer speed and aggressiveness allows him to track back and cover defensively when all seems lost. He is also brilliant going forward; able to assist his team-mates and score himself with devastating potency.
