Eight Times A Wonder

Bayern Munich sealed their record-extending eighth consecutive Bundesliga crown last night; with a 'professional' performance over relegation-threatened Werder Bremen 1-0 at the Weserstadion. Credit to Werder; this was by no means an easy game for the champions; who were in fact reduced to 10 men after left-back Alphonso Davies was sent off in the 79th minute for two arguable bookable offences.

And it was perhaps fitting that it was their star striker Robert Lewandowski who got the winning goal; latching on to a through-ball from Jerome Boateng to finish with his customary aplomb; just two minutes before half-time.

Even though they controlled the majority of the possession; Bayern could not find a killer second goal; and after Davies' sending-off; they even had to endure a few near-scares as Werder throw men forward; accentuated by Manuel Neuer's championship-wining save from Yuya Osako's near-post header.

In the end; it was glory for Bayern; as luminaries Karl-Heinz Rummenigge; Oliver Kahn & Hasan Salihamidzic rose to salute the Bavarian greats. Next up for them: the German Cup final; and the UEFA Champions League...
