They'll Never Walk Alone

Well done to Liverpool. To win the toughest league in the world by such a margin; and with so many games left; is certainly an impressive achievement. How does it feel when your team wins the league? It feels special. I know. I felt that way in 1987. U feel on top of the world; like nothing can go wrong. U feel like you're floating on air throughout the day. Muhammad Ali got nothin' on you. And to do it in this strange, coronavirus-delayed season; and having to wait so long for the two wins; must feel extra special.

So here's my take on the Liverpool players:
1) Alisson - The best goalkeeper in the world. His reflexes; presence and overall command of the area is impressive indeed. He definitely beats Ederson to no. 2 and is certainly comparable to the Great Dane Peter Schmeichel.

2) Trent Alexander-Arnold - I used to think both him and Andrew Robertson were the best full-backs in the world. The way they rove up & down the flanks; and their crossing and dead-ball deliveries are just second-to-none.

3) Andrew Robertson - When he was at Hull; we already noticed him. But few would have thought he would reach to this level; and so fast. Must be one of the best value-for-money signings in world history.

4) Virgil van Dijk - A colossal defender; and clearly one of the best in the world. His size, quickness and ball-playing ability make him just about the complete defender.

5) Joel Matip - A good foil for van Dijk and a capable defender himself. Is actually taller than van Dijk but reads the game decently and is not afraid to put in a challenge.

6) Fabinho - An integral part of the Liverpool system in that he is the key break-upper of attacks and provides the foundation for Liverpool to build. The same as a Makelele; Kante or Fernandinho; every good team needs one.

7) Jordan Henderson - Must say he is quite an inspirational captain and leader of men. Another who became a better player after joining from Sunderland. His energy and work-rate makes him a vital cog in the Liverpool midfield.

8) Georginio Wijnaldum - I must say I wasn't that impressed with him at Newcastle; but I certainly am at Liverpool. His attacking guile & verve provides a perfect complement to his midfield team-mates. And who can forget his outstanding super-sub appearance against Barcelona...

9) Roberto Firmino - The ultimate link-up player for Liverpool and perhaps even under-rated in world footballing lexicon. His intelligence & link-up play are a big part of Liverpool's success; and the perfect foil for the two beside him.

10) Mohamed Salah - Though not as influential this season; his overall speed and attacking play still cause problems for opposing defences. Defenders have probably figured out a bit now how to handle him but he's still an awesomely tough cover.

11) Sadio Mane - What can I say: just a great player; especially over the past few seasons. His balance; work-rate and appetite for goal mean he is a joy to watch and a terror for opposing defences. Possesses great determination and will to win.
