In this beautiful competition called the UEFA Champions League; what we have on hand is an absolute classic: two of the biggest teams in the world; two of the favourites: Barcelona & Bayern Munich.
Normally; Barca would be the slight favourites; but this time; it's the reverse. The Spanish behemoth are beset by in-fighting; both on and off the field. Surely they would have won La Liga if things were 'normal'. After the Corona break; they came back like a wounded animal. And they played like it; relinquishing the lead to an inspired Real Madrid.
Their players are lacking the confidence; and lacking the cohesion. Lionel Messi is not happy; and the players don't seem like they're giving it all for the club. Things are made worse by the seeming lack of relationship with the manager Quique Setien; who doesn't even seem sure if he will be sacked by the club. And even worse; there are problems off the field as well; with the club directors; President and even players involved in an unwieldy social media fiasco.
On the contrary; Bayern are flying high at the moment. To put it simply: since the Corona break; there has been no better team in the world. 13 straight wins for Hansi Flick's side; as they imperiously seemed to improve game after game to secure the domestic double; and now look odds-on favourites to make it an indomitable treble; their second since 2013.
