Glo-Val Football

Peter Lim's Valencia has come under abit of fire recently; with the club's rabid fan-base not too impressed with what they feel are the 'mis-management & devaluation' of the club; if you will. Gone are the days back in 2014 when Lim was hailed as the saviour of the club; with fans chanting his name as he stepped in gloriously to take this club to new heights.

Well right now; nothing could be further from the truth; as the club seems to be going downwards and fans are rather vocally voicing their displeasure. I think the fact the club changes managers a bit too many times and too rashly may not have been a good move. In the quest for quick success; they seemed to have made some hasty decisions regarding the manager. For example; feted star Marcelino did pretty well but was sacked; thus bringing about disquiet from the fan-base.

In addition; the club has not done too well this season for their lofty standards: finishing only 9th in La Liga and thus not qualifying for Europe; which is of course where the money is. The Corona-virus has also brought on economic damage to the club; as it has to all clubs around the world; thus limiting their ability to engage in the transfer market.

And what's made worse is the fact that one of their star players Ferran Torres; 20 years-old; has been sold for a quite-cheap fee of 23 million Euro to Manchester City; which did not leave their fans impressed, And what was even worse was their two important players; captain Dani Parejo & ex-Arsenal star Francis Coquelin; were sold to Villarreal for a ridiculously-low fee of 11 million Euro; which seems to be the final straw the fans can take.

However; I do also see from the point of view of the owners; that they need to be financially prudent to run the club; especially during these trying Corona-enforced times. Also; it seems Torres wanted to leave; thus they couldn't do much to block the move anyway; and if managers are publicity criticizing the management; sometimes you need to take some action. There is of course a need to balance the books; and not go 'all-out' in the quest for success; only to become another Leeds United.
