Alas; it was his German compatriot Kai Havertz who dithered too much; playing one step-over too many; as he was caught in possession deep in his own half from a combined challenge by Theo Walcott & Che Adams. In stepped in-form & 'one-on-one' master Danny Ings to reduce the arrears.
Worse was to come in the second half; when another shambolic defending by Kurt Zouma and a bizarre befuddlement by Kepa Arrizabalaga allowed Adams to slam home after a proper goal-mouth melee. But Chelsea's attack these days is so good they managed to manoeuvre their way up-top; with Werner this time playing provider for Havertz's glorious side-step.
Just when it looked like Chelsea had just about edged through this one; there was to be some late drama when a corner was headed out by the Chelsea defence; for Everton loanee Walcott to volley back and in; via a deftly-flicked Jannik Vestergaard to secure the most drama of draws.
