In the midst of this already-startling season; one of the greatest competitions in the world - the UEFA Champions League - kicks off tonight. And there are already some key contests about to take place. PSG - the Champions League finalists last season who came so close to reaching the promised land; kick off their campaign against Manchester United; with the added sub-plot of their star striker Edinson Cavani having switched sides to Old Trafford and poised for his debut.
Another interesting clash sees Chelsea - big-spenders in the transfer market but inconsistent in form - taking on the reigning Europa League champions Sevilla at Stamford Bridge. Manager Frank Lampard has already stated how his young side can continue to grow and evolve in their quest for greatness; and the best team to learn from is in fact the best; Bayern Munich; champions last season and the team that hammered them 7-1 on aggregate in the Round-of-16.
Also; Liverpool begin their campaign with a tasty-looking tie away at Ajax Amsterdam. Can the reigning English champions survive without their colossal Virgil van Dijk and overcome their slightly-inconsistent form to begin their Champions League campaign on the right foot?
