Chief of their performance was attacking midfielder Papu Gomez; who engineered both goals with delightful passes for Josip Ilicic & Robin Gosens to stun the Anfield faithful. It was a typical performance by the Serie A high-flyers; with a free-flowing passing game and diligent teamwork; engineering a dramatic reversal from their earlier 0-5 home shellacking by the same team merely weeks ago.
With a changed line-up; including three newcomers in their back five of Neco Williams; Kostas Tsimikas & Rhys Williams; Liverpool looked strangely lethargic and ill-at-ease; with their fluency and continuation play quite obviously lacking. Juergen Klopp was quite obviously not happy on the sidelines; and he even made four changes at once; with his first-team regulars coming on to try and change the game.
With this positive result; Atalanta now face a battle with Dutch champions Ajax Amsterdam for the coveted second group spot to advance to the knockout rounds of the competition.
