Sting In The Tale

Everton; looking to bounce back from a disappointing home loss to West Ham United last time out; crashed 2-5 to a resurgent Watford; themselves looking to recover from a 0-5 humbling against Liverpool last time out.

It all looked so good for the home side; taking the lead inside the first two minutes when Tom Davies finished off a flowing move involving youngster Anthony Gordon down the left. You thought it was going to be easy; but Everton have a way of surprising you in this way... before too long; the tide had turned as Joshua King; himself a former Everton player; turned in the ball after some poor defending from an Everton set-piece.

The half continued pretty even; till substitute Richarlison changed the dynamic of the game by scoring a flying header midway through the second. At this point; you thot Everton would have sealed it; but wrong again. After yet more poor defending from a corner; midfielder Juraj Kucka found space to power a header in for the equaliser.

The Everton crowd was getting restless; and the murmurs seemed to transcend to the pitch. Before too long; an inexplicable gaping hole appeared in the Everton defence; for King to stride through and power Watford in front.

The howls of derision were only echoing; before King himself managed to turn Michael Keane inside out before scoring home his team's fourth; and his hat-trick; as Everton's defence seemed to disintegrate before our eyes. The fact that King; who hardly featured during his tortuous stint at Everton last season; now managed to score a hat-rick against his old club was news in itself.

There was still time for more diabolicism; as Seamus Coleman became the latest to be faked out; before substitute Emmanuel Dennis slotted home Watford's fifth; to prolong the Toffees' misery & send the travelling Hornets fans into delirium.
