Atletico Madrid lost to Liverpool 3-2 at their Wanda Metropolitano stadium in an intense contest that saw several twists & turns. The home team; like their manager Diego Simeone; came out looking ready to rock; bayed on by a full-house; partisan crowd.

But it was Liverpool that set the bridges on fire; storming to a two-goal lead courtesy of another wondrous Mohamed Salah strike and a sumptuous Naby Keita volley.

But just when you thought it was game over; Atletico came roaring back; with Antoine Griezmann poking in the first before manoeuvring past Virgil van Dijk to score a fine second; after good work down the left from Joao Felix.

But just when it looked like Atletico might have the upper hand; the match turned again. The man of the hour Griezmann; obviously with adrenaline running through his veins; lunged for a loose ball & caught Roberto Firmino on the head in an accidental collision. Unfortunately for him & Atletico though; the referee deemed it enough for a red card even though yellow seemed the better option.

Hamstrung with 10 men; Atletico still looked value for money; before left-back Mario Hermoso's rather needless challenge on Diogo Jota gifted the visitors with a vital penalty that Salah tucked away. The home side still had time to see their own penalty decision when Jota seemed to nudge Jose Gimenez in the box; but it was overturned by VAR.
