In The Red Mist

This was probably the first-ever Merseyside Derby that was so unbalanced; as in there was simply no hope Everton was going to win with such poor form; and Liverpool were on exactly the other end of the spectrum; flying high and scoring goals for fun.

Well could there be a miracle? Sadly not; as the match played out about true to form. Notwithstanding the whirlwind start to the game; you sensed Liverpool always had control; as epitomised by Mohamed Salah's calm & collected finishes; symbiotic of his status as one of the game's best players right now.

Sure there was a rate foggy moment for about 15 minutes when Everton seemed miraculously able to salvage a draw; after Demarai Gray had pulled one back; but after Seamus Coleman's costly mistake; it led to another unerring Salah finish and basically game over from then.

The gulf in class and confidence was all too apparent at the moment; with Diogo Jota's impudent flick past a despairing Allan for the fourth goal a fitting symbol of the state of affairs. For Everton; there seems almost no way back from the malaise; and with tough games against Arsenal; Chelsea & Manchester United to come; a relegation battle is not of the question.

As for Liverpool; this latest statement victory means they are well on course for another almighty battle with Chelsea & Manchester City for the championship.
