Pole Position

In 2020; the Ballon d'Or competition was cancelled due to the COVID. It was quite a shame; as Poland and Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski was on track to achieve something no-one thought would be possible; winning the Ballon d'Or award ahead of Lionel Messi & Cristiano Ronaldo. Almost never has the latter two not won the award; with the sole exception in 2018 after Croatian Luka Modric's exceptional season that saw him take his country to the final of the World Cup tournament.

And I must say that Lewandowski deserves it. At the ripe old age of 33; he has gotten better & better with age; with his move to Bayern seeming to up his stakes even higher after an already-fruitful spell with Borussia Dortmund. With better players around him; he is becoming even more clinical; getting into great positions and being involved in Bayern's famed link-up play as well.

This was never more apparent than in Bayern's legendary performance in the 2019-20 UEFA Champions League; as they stormed imperiously through the competition; fortified by Lewandowski's tremendous exploits; picking up Earth-shattering wins against Tottenham Hotspur; Chelsea & Barcelona in the process.
