Take My Branthwaite Away

Everton produced a steely defensive masterclass to draw 1-1 with Chelsea on a tense evening at Stamford Bridge. Try as they might; Thomas Tuchel's men were just not at their best today; with their normally-confident passing deserting them and unable to create the decisive chance that they sorely needed.

On the other hand; the visitors; severely depleted by injury and illness; got a good showing from their youngsters; notably defender Jarrad Branthwaite & winger Anthony Gordon. Even substitute Lewis Dobbin also did well after coming on for Ellis Simms.

For Chelsea; their recent downturn in form was exemplified in this game; and maybe they underestimated Everton a little. Even though they dominated possession; they did not have the wherewithal or creativity to break down a massed Everton rearguard. Even their substitutions of Ross Barkley; Saul Niguez & Trevoh Chalobah did not seem the right ones. They will look at two massive points dropped in a match they just had to win.
