Opting for a more-expansive 3-4-3 formation; Everton played with a power & panache that has sorely been missing this season; with the full-backs Seamus Coleman & Vitalii Mykolenko able to push on with the safety of a 3-man defence. Overall; Everton pressed pretty decently and showed enterprise in attack; taking a greater number of shots that ultimately brought 4 goals.
It must be said that this was not a good Brentford performance. All the things that made them a revelation this season were simply not there. Their abject defending gave rise to three Everton goals; notably from defending set-pieces where Rico Henry was inexplicably guarding Yerry Mina; and Mads Bech Sorensen's sequence of madness when he gave the ball away then assisted Holgate for his header.
It was also nice to see some of Everton's more bit-part players featuring; notably Andre Gomes who seemed revitalised in central midfield; and even the forgotten men Cenk Tosun & Jonjoe Kenny also featured as latish substitutes.
The Brentford players may have 'HOLLYWOOD' on their shirts; but on this night; it was Everton who were the stars.
