Canada Rising

There is a new boy in town in the CONCACAF group. After years in the doldrums; Canada are starting to assert themselves and are now unbelievably on top of their qualifying group for the World Cup in Qatar 2022; ahead of perennial powerhouses USA & Mexico.

The last and only time they were in the World Cup was back in 1986; when Diego Maradona ruled the world in the Mexico edition. The current generation have been boosted by the establishment of the new Canadian Premier League and the arrival of a host of new young players; led by the best left-back in the world Alphonso Davies of Bayern Munich; and forward Jonathan David of Lille.

Their recent 2-0 win over USA was a statement win that established the new world order in the CONCACAF group. It will be interesting to see how they get on in Qatar 22.
