It was a move almost too good to be true; as no one would have thought the footballing legend would decide to manage a team like that. From no-hopers in the lower regions; Maradona's arrival created a maelstrom of belief and hope; and the team slowly surged their way to the top of the second division.
There was to be heartbreak however; as the team lost in the playoff final not once; but twice; and to the same team at that; Atletico San Luis. Maradona actually left the club midway due to health issues; but after much predicament; he made a triumphant return; spurring the team on to a late revival in the second season.
What makes this series so captivating is the fast-moving plot and dramatic storyline. It captures succinctly the trials and tribulations at a Mexican professional football club; showing in vivid pictures the losses and victories they go through. Throughout the series; certain snapshots of life in Mexico are shown along the way as well. The impact and loyalty of Maradona is clear; as he spurs and ignites the passion in this group of hardworking players.
