Let's face it: the Los Angeles Clippers have been having a rather up-and-down season thus far. Soaring highs have been met with thumping lows; bouts of insane defense met with bouts of rigid offense. And after losing to a powerful Golden State Warriors team in the last match; they had fallen to a rather nervy 11-9 record. On the fifth game of a 6-hame home-stand; surely they would return to wining ways against a lowly New Orleans Pelicans team missing their star player Zion Williamson? And further more; this was the same Pelicans team that had upset them just a few weeks back... surely some revenge was in order?
Well what we saw was an exact reversal of what we thought would happen. The Pelicans played the game of their lives; stunning the home Clippers into submission; behind a monumental effort from center Jonas Valenciunas; who exploded with a career-high 39 points behind some stunning three-point shooting. When the dust had settled; the Pelicans had romped to a 123-104 victory on the Clippers' home court. To be honest; the Clippers played a bit like a team that thought the victory was in the bag; but the Pelicans quite clearly had other ideas.
