London At War

This had all the makings of an epic: the two best teams in London; both having won their opening game; two of the fiercest rivals; Eden Hazard; Chelsea's dominance at Stamford Bridge: there's something special about Chelsea v Tottenham.

And the match lived up to its billing: Chelsea were the dominant force in the first half; looking razor-sharp and pressing Tottenham back for long periods. They look the lead through Kalidou Koulibaly's volley; and there was frankly only one team in it.

Kudos to Antonio Conte though: his switch to 4-4-2 opened things up for Spurs; who were suddenly back in it. And when Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg drove home a speculative shot; it prompted an over-the-top (OTT) celebration from Conte that drove Thomas Tuchel wild; not least because he thought there was a 'clear' foul by Rodrigo Bentancur on Kai Havertz just 44 seconds prior.

Well the drama was just beginning; as Reece James; having an exceptional afternoon at right-back; drove Chelsea ahead again; prompting another mad dash from Tuchel that would have made Jose Mourinho proud. You sensed Chelsea were good value for the win; but not quite.

Right at the death; in the 96th minute; a needless foul from James prompted a Spurs free-kick and general mayhem from two resulting corners; including a bizarre hair-pulling incident on Marc Cucurella that went unchecked. Cue a brilliant corner from Ivan Perisic and a flick header from Harry Kane that was going wide but diverted in inadvertently by James again.

With tensions reaching boiling point; the two managers got involved in the worst handshake of all time; leading to a WWE-style fracas that saw both managers sent off; both teams getting involved; and Cesar Azpilicueta getting involved (not totally surprising). Holy smoke.
