Loony Toons

The Premier League has been pure box office so far. And never was there clearer than Newcastle's sensational 3-3 draw with Manchester City that was truly a sight to behold. If ever there was a match to show the rise of the Saudi-led revolution at Newcastle; then this was it.

Oh it started quite well for City. Ilkay Gundogan; the hero of last season's tumultuous final day; got them off to a dream start when he found space in the box to volley home in the 5th minute. Previous versions of Newcastle would have folded right there; but they are a different breed these days.

Before long they were overpowering City with wave after wave of attack; led by the mesmerizing play of Allan Saint-Maximin who gave Kyle Walker a torrid time. When we all woke from our disbelieving eyes; they had gone 3-1 ahead thanks to Miguel Almiron; Callum Wilson and a brilliant free-kick from the new David Beckham; Kieran Trippier.

But as City does; they can turn the match in a second. After an inadvertent mistake from Dan Burn allowed Erling Haaland to score their second; Newcastle's press dropped a notch; and you sensed the momentum turning. Cue Kevin De Bruyne to thread a brilliant pass for Bernardo Silva to tuck home; and suddenly we were level.

You rarely see City torn to shreds like that; and you can sense this Newcastle team led by Eddie Howe is slowly returning to the glory days. They are another testament to how there are simply no more weak teams in the Premiership.
