Red Alert

In perhaps the greatest Community Shield in history; Liverpool served intent for the new season with a commanding 3-1 performance over champions Manchester City. From the get-go; it was clear that the Reds were the fitter; faster side; as they managed to conjure the better chances and were ultimately more clinical in front of goal.

On the other hand; City looked strangely out-of-sorts; unable to get their passing game together. Though they came back well to equalize through Julian Alvarez; they were never quite able to gain the ascendancy in this match.

As for the battle of the debutantes; you've got to hand it to Darwin Nunez. The former Benfica striker was brilliant after coming on in the 58th minute. He provided good link-up play; provided an assist for the penalty; and even scored the final third with a predatory header. On the other hand; Erling Haaland showed poor movement & body language. He played like he had a huge weight on his shoulders. He had one average opportunity that he shot straight at the 'keeper; before failing miserably with the outside of his left foot when a diving header was the better option. To sum up his woes; he even blasted against the bar in the dying moments when it seemed much easier to score.
