The Star Is Born

Anita is the latest movie documentary featuring the late singer Anita Mui. With its devastating closeness to real life; it will take viewers on a nostalgia-filled journey through her life; starting right from when she was a child star with her sister; through her troubled relationships with ill-fated boyfriends; problems with triad boss; and all the way to her death in 2003.

Louise Wong; in her screen role debut; is awesome playing Anita; and it helps that she has similar features to the real singer too; even closer than say Austin Butler had with Elvis. She is supported by a solid cast featuring Louis Koo as the influential fashion designer Eddie Lau; Fish Lew as her sister Ann Mui (who not surprisingly has a rather large part in the show) and Yo Yang as her second ex-boyfriend. A large part of the plot also hinges on her major relationship with Leslie Cheung and how it shaped her life.

Her life and times are clearly shown through the detailed storyline; explaining the key decisions and defining moments that brought about her eventual downfall and life story. It is much better than the previous Anita movie a couple years back; that was more a representation of her played from a fan's perspective. With the searing likeness to real life and attention to detail; this Anita movie is certainly one of the movies of the year.
