Chelsea may be known as The Blues but on this night; it was the Bad Blue Boys of Dinamo Zagreb who dealt one of the greatest upsets in Champions League history; beating Chelsea 1-0 at Stadium Maksimir in the opening match of the campaign.
Chelsea may have had a lot of possession but they failed to do much with it; opting for plenty of sideways passing without much penetration. Even after bringing on their subs such as Jorginho & Hakim Ziyech; they failed to penetrate the massed Zagreb defence.
Dinamo Zagreb; on the other hand; played a magnificent match. So organised and steadfast in defence; they kept the Chelsea attackers at bay; notably a splendid performance from their left-back Robert Ljubicic; who was outstanding in defence. So too their midfield mastermind Josip Misic; who ran the show from midfield.
At the final whistle; the stadium erupted like they had won the World Cup; as the Zagreb players fell over in sheer jubilation & exhaustion. It was that kind of a night.
