Unfortunately; it has not gone according to plan as towards the business end of the season; they have suffered three consecutive defeats to hand the initiative over to bitter rivals Albirex Niigata; who have gleefully surged up four points ahead. Their latest defeat was a stunning 5-3 collapse to 2nd-bottom Balestier Khalsa after being 2-0 ahead.
The strange thing is that prior to those three defeats; the Sailors had went on a fantastical four game win streak of 4-0 over Balestier Khalsa; 10-1 over Young Lions; 7-0 over Tanjong Pagar & 9-4 over Hougang United; thus highlighting the inconsistency of it all.
Perhaps all the turmoil surrounding the head-butt; the messy mid-season dismissal of Kim Shin Wook and player egos and a lack of teamwork is taking its toll after all. It will certainly be one of the greatest upsets in football history if such an overwhelming favorite does not win the title. Perhaps money doesn't quite talk after all.
