Talk Of The Toon

It's amazing what a bit of Saudi injection of money can do. Suddenly Fabian Schar looks like a defender. Suddenly the confidence is coursing through their veins. Newcastle are a different breed these days. As evidenced by their latest 5-1 destruction of Brentford; not a poor team by any stretch of the imagination. This followed a 4-1 win at Fulham previously; and if you haven't yet taken notice; it is time to do so now.

Malcolm McDonald; Jackie Milburn; Kevin Keegan; Peter Beardsley. The list of Toon-town legends is strong. But now you can see other contenders in Miguel Almiron; Bruno Guimaraes and Joelinton. You could see the pressing on display and how they harried Brentford to repeated mistakes as they tried to play out from the back. Also Eddie Howe must be given credit for the innovative free-kick routines they displayed; which were a breath of fresh air. And all this was WITHOUT their three star players in Alexander Isak; Allan Saint-Maximin and Joelinton.

Perhaps the term 'sleeping giant' is best used for such a case. They have truly awoken now.
