It started well for the Hammers; Moroccan World Cup star Nayef Aguerd heading home from a laser-like corner from new man James Ward-Prowse. Ward-Prowse had already delivered an excellent corner just previously but Chelsea did not heed the danger. Just like against Liverpool though; the Blues came back when impressive youngster Carney Chukwuemeka cut in to drill an unstoppable shot past Alphonse Areola.
It was Chelsea who now seemingly had the imperative but early in the second half; the Hammers scored the goal that was to turn the tide of this match. Veteran striker Michail Antonio; who hardly had a touch all game; rifled in a superb shot from the edge of the area having been found by Ward-Prowse again. Having to chase the match, Chelsea started getting desperate; and their calamity was found when debutant substitute Moises Caicedo had a nightmarish start; getting involved in a bizarre argument with Lucas Paqueta before bringing down Emerson for Paqueta's penalty to seal the win.
