They're Loving Ange Instead

Two of the in-form & unbeaten sides took on each other in the English Premier League and yet again; it did not disappoint. In a mad-cap game reminiscent of that never-to-be-forgotten 4-3 affair between Newcastle & Liverpool back in 1996; it was Tottenham Hotspur who continued their recent ascendancy with a last-gasp 2-1 victory over a valiant 9-man Liverpool side with a Joel Matip own-goal right at the death. Ange Postecoglu's team have looked like a breath of fresh air this season with their attacking intent; and this latest statement win over Liverpool will give them further belief that they now belong among the big boys.

The match was not without controversy though. Curtis Jones' red card was probably deserved but Diogo Jota's first yellow was seriously debatable. Even worse still was Luis Diaz's 'ghost goal' that seemed to be onside and was never quite cleared up by VAR; which added to the mystique.

While Liverpool made a good fist of it with 10 men; it was always going to be difficult with 9; although they defended brilliantly; helped by some astounding saves from Allison. In the end though; after a lot of sideways passing and Kulusevski back-pedalling; it was up to Cristian Romero to finally find Pedro Porro instead; with the right-back's cross tragically turned in by Matip right at the death.
