Wolverhampton Wanderers also played a 3-4-3 formation; but it was clear that their players were much more accustomed to it; finding the right passes & spaces to get to. For want of a better word; they looked hungrier too; as they got to most of the loose balls first and were overall more tigerish in the tackle.
Unlike Everton; Wolves made use of the flanks (as you're supposed to in a 3-4-3); with Nelson Semedo & Rayan Ait-Nouri providing able support for the industrious Pablo Sarabia & Matheus Cunha. In fact; the first two goals came from crosses; as Maximilian Kilman & Cunha were on hand to bundle the ball home from close range. When it came to the third; Everton's defence was all at sea; as their offside trap failed to allow Craig Dawson to steer home the third. Everton looked better when they switched to a 4-4-1-1 formation; bringing on Beto & Andre Gomes in their more conventional roles; but by then; it was too little; too late.
