Losing Touch

Recently came the shocking news that Jose Mourinho has been sacked by AS Roma. It marks an all-too-familiar cycle that the previously-anointed Special One has been going through the past few years. Always his first year comes in with all guns blazing; threats to take on the world; and usually ends with a big trophy or two. The second year comes with a bit more struggles & a drop in consistency; and the third inevitably ends up in disaster; tantrums thrown and then the final sacking.

Perhaps it his rather abrasive style of things that people cannot tahan after three years; perhaps it is his authoritative; no-holds-barred style of management; or maybe it's his 'always someone else is wrong' mantra that rubs the management; staff & players the wrong way. Whatever it is; it is a long way from the glory days when he came in as a suave young punk to Chelsea and became the best manager in the world. Even at Inter Milan he performed the miracle: winning the treble with a not particularly strong squad.

Instead of the smooth operator he was in his younger years; he is now increasingly bitter; haggard and fed up with life. After failed escapades at Manchester United; Tottenham Hotspur & now Roma; it is hard to see where his next destination may be.
