Oscar Award

In another special game of an already-special season; Newcastle United shook off their recent rusts to put up a spirited performance; running champions Manchester City razor-close in a thrilling 2-3 win for Josep Guardiola's side.

It all looked fine & dandy for City as Bernardo Silva produced a moment of magic; back-flicking Kyle Walker's cross into the net to give the visitors the lead. Within a flash of minutes however; Newcastle stormed back to life; with Alexander Isak & then Anthony Gordon producing similar brilliant right-foot finishes after cutting in from the same stricken Walker.

Newcastle looked in control of proceedings; but that was before the introduction of Kevin de Bruyne; just back after 5 months out with injury. Like the genius that he is; he first found space to slot home the equalizer; before producing a typical incisive pass for teenager Oscar Bobb to prod home the winner in injury time.

City celebrated like they had won the title; it was that kind of game. For Newcastle; their deflated faces at the end said it all: how did they end up losing a match that looked already won...
