This City Never Sleeps

Everton held on for a heartwarming 71 minutes at the Etihad Stadium; but in the end had to relent to an Erling Braut Haaland double; as Manchester City's relentless side racked up 10 consecutive victories in all competitions and surged to the top of the league table.

It wasn't a smooth operation for Josep Guardiola's men though; as their rather strange 4-1-4-1 formation played into the hands of Sean Dyche's 4-2-3-1 formation; with Jack Harrison dropping deep to pick up Rodrigo; and wingers Ashley Young and Dwight McNeil fostering back to act as auxiliary full-backs.

City looked frustrated and out of sorts in the first half; with their ack of creativity and inspiration repelled by an organised Everton side that defended with poise and purpose. In the end though; City's improved display paid off in the second half; as Haaland made the most of Jarrad Branthwaite's two moments of hesitation to score both goals and take City to the top.
