Let Him Entertain You

The Robbie Williams documentary on Netflix is a rather decent one. It takes on a reflective edge & delves back to his younger days when he first started as the youngest member of Take That. It is rather honest; looking back on his abrasive relationship with lead singer Gary Barlow that led to his eventual departure from the band.

Fittingly enough; it features quite heavily on 'Angels'; the song that literally saved his solo career and set him off on a searing journey to the top of the music world. Another interesting feature is his short-lived relationship with Spice Girl Geri Halliwell; something I didn't even know about. The film also pulls no punches about his oft-documented health & addiction issues; and how he almost did not make it through a big concert in his heyday.

While not a huge fan of his; I do admire a number of his songs. Obviously a hard worker; he has proven that you can leave a boyband and have a successful career; something Barlow himself; Bryan McFadden; Nick Carter and Nick Lachey never achieved. Apart from 'Angels'; he did have several other successful songs such as 'Eternity', 'Supreme' & the under-rated Intensive Care album that spawned songs such as 'Advertising Space' & 'Please Don't Die'.
