The Rising Sun

As madcap comedies go; they don't get more madcap than The Brothers Sun; the latest drama coming out of Netflix that has everyone talking. Based on an interesting premise of a Taiwanese gangster family coming out in the United States; it is unique in that it introduces as much gore as comedy and has several twists & turns that will leave viewers gaping.

A strong part of this show is the cast; with no less than Oscar Award winner Michelle Yeoh in the titular mother role. She is supported ably by her two sons who couldn't be more contrasting apart; the broody Charles as the tough gangster; and young student Bruce; who couldn't be more nerdy & oblivious to the furore. Other roles are ably filled as well by a largely Asian cast; with Bruce's girlfriend-turned-protagonist Grace & Charles' childhood sweetheart Alexis Kong particularly impressive.

Overall; the action and jokes make for a rather entertaining show. The only sad part is the sequel seems to have been recently canned; even though it was already planned for in the first season's sneak peeks. Perhaps the viewership figures just weren't quite what they expected.
