Wolverhampton Wanderers; looking so abject & hopeless earlier in the season; now look a totally different outfit. And they displayed this precisely in their latest match against a high-flying Newcastle United; themselves looking to intercept the Champions League places. With a confidence & poise belying their current basement position; Rob Edwards' men were well worth their goal-less draw.
Yerson Mosquera inexplicably found himself charging up the field from his centre-back position; while Hugo Bueno has suddenly looked like a decent left-back. But the clearest symbol of Wolves' rise is clearly 18 year-old Matheus Mane; who is looking mature beyond his years. Playing on the left-wing and looking threatening on the ball; he is displaying a new-found confidence & verve that has suddenly made the Wolves look threatening again.
Newcastle may have thought they could win this; but like several sides recently; they were left disappointed again. Their 6'5" beanpole Nick Woltemade had a few chances to win this; but in the end Wolves' defence proved resilient enough. Wolves still remain rooted to the bottom; but suddenly; it appears that hope is on board.
