Pressing the Scottish backline into mistakes; it was the Croats who started the match brighter; forcing a string of saves from veteran goalkeeper Craig Gordon. However; the match turned just before half-time ; when Petar Sucic was shown a second yellow card after a rather-innocuous barge on Scotland defender John Souttar.
Buoyed by the opportunity; the Scots came into the second half with all guns blazing; and it was winger Ben Doak who electrified the crowd with his direct running; causing palpitations to one of the world's best defenders; left-back Josko Gvardiol. On one of those runs; it caused havoc in the Croatian box and led to substitute McGinn steering his shot into goal to spark wild frenzy in the stands.
