The Golden State Valkyries are the WNBA Champions 2026; beating the Atlanta Dream in a thrilling 7-game series to win it all in only their 2nd year of existence.
It comes as no surprise to me. Watching the Valkyries this season; I've been impressed by their defensive tenacity; all-round depth and amazing team chemistry. The group are so talented it's untrue; with star performances from the likes of Gabby Williams; Veronica Burton & even veteran Tiffany Hayes proving too much for the opposition time & again.
A lot of credit must also go to coach Natalie Nakase; who is proving the female Chuck Daly; seemingly inventing a new philosophy in the game with her team-first approach & attention to defense. Witness the defensive slug-fest that was Game 7; which I actually prefer over an all-out scoring fest.
