Impact Song

Another song I can add to my list of those that I used to hate, but now love. You know, it's strange how a melody can appear initially irritating, bothersome..... but something happens along the way and suddenly, it grows on you and you end up not being able to get enough of it! It could be hearing it loud and live at a big event, or hearing it as the background music of some movie that you watched.... Suddenly, a new context dawns on you and before you know it, you end up loving the song.

Previous examples would be 'Don't Speak' by No Doubt, 'Poker Face' by Lady Gaga (amazingly), 'Thinking Of You (I Drive Myself Crazy)' by 'N Sync and '25 Minutes' by Michael Learns To Rock (also amazingly). Now there is one more to add to the list. fun. (feat. Janelle Morae)'s excellent crowd-thumper 'We Are Young'. If ever there was an impact song, this is it. It deserves all the Grammy Awards it has won, for this truly is a terrific song.

The high point is of course the chorus, which is well supplemented by the thumping drum beats. fun. is a relatively new group made up of charismatic lead singer Nate Reuss, Andrew Dost and Jack Antonoff. Contrary to the song title, the three of them are not actually that young, averaging about 30 years of age. They all initially came from different respective bands, and came together to form fun.
