So quite a lot has been said about the recent US debacle in the FIBA basketball World Cup... it was a great tournament btw... but the US; tipped to win it; did abit disastrously to finish a woeful 7th after losing to an inspired France in the quarter-finals.
Some people say the US didn't bring their strongest team... and that's true... but if you ask me; a team with the likes of Harrison Barnes, Donovan Mitchell, Marcus Smart, Kemba Walker & Khris Middleton should be able to win the tournament... yes only 2 All-Stars in the team but still a group of very good NBA players.
Having said that; the standard of every country is now improving and you've got tons of NBA players in the other national teams as well... witness Serbia's Bogdan Bogdanovic of the Sacramento Kings; Spain's Ricky Rubio & Marc Gasol of the Phoenix Suns & Toronto Raptors respectively; France's Evan Fournier of the Orlando Magic; and Australia's Patty Mills of the San Antonio Spurs; just to name a few. There are so many talented foreign players in the NBA nowadays & it's gone really global. And I think it's all good for the game as the USA doesn't just waltz its way to an international title now... it's all very tight and close and that can only be good for the game.
