Manchester City; for so long the European under-achievers; showed their Real intent by dispatching the UEFA Champions League masters themselves; Real Madrid; 2-1 at home to chalk up an overall 4-2 aggregate win.
The match was basically decided by two nightmarish; schoolboy-type errors from venerated Real defender Raphael Varane; the first nudged off the the ball by the typically-hardworking Gabriel Jesus for Raheem Sterling to score; and the second pounced on by Jesus himself with a typically-opportunistic finish after a loose header.
Overall; it must be said that City played well; a team playing with the confidence & authority as espoused by their manager's confident pre-match assertions. With Rodrigo & Ilkay Gundogan patrolling the middle; their passing and possession game was in full flow; and they made Real look second best to be honest.
