However; the second half was a decidedly different affair. Once Ben Chilwell kept his cool to blast Chelsea in front early in the half; the floodgates started to open; with Palace seemingly unable to mount any concerted attacks of their own. Chilwell; looking much like the new Graeme Le Saux; was proving brilliant on his set-pieces as well; and one lovely flighted ball from a corner was headed in toweringly by the impressive Kurt Zouma.
With the rather-remodeled defence of Edouard Mendy; Cesar Azpilicueta; Chilwell; Thiago Silva & Zouma; Chelsea looked decidedly more assured at the back. Their victory was wrapped up with a pair of penalties from spot-kick extraordinaire Jorginho; after careless fouls from Tyrick Mitchell & Mamadou Sakho; who was at fault for the first two Chelsea goals as well.
