Power Play

I guess it had to happen one way or the other. After months of brewing chaos; the President of Barcelona; Josep Maria Bartomeu has stepped down; purportedly to avoid a vote of no-confidence that the fans at the club have been calling for.

After a quite disastrous last season; I guess something had to give. Barcelona failed to win a single trophy for the first time in a long time; and a supposed PR firm somehow seemed to go against it in a social media circus; while there was palpable tension in the air as form seemed to suffer both on-field & off; leading to arch-rivals Real Madrid pulling off a remarkable victory run after the corona-break to surge to the La Liga title.

After their cataclysmic 2-8 thrashing at the hands of eventual champions Bayern Munich; it was clear something was grossly not right; with even star player Lionel Messi stating his displeasure and threatening to leave the cub in a stunning announcement.

Long-time star players like Luis Suarez & Ivan Rakitic were told in no uncertain terms they were not wanted; and it was no surprise when Quique Setien was replaced by new coach Ronald Koeman as well.

Well; after Bartomeu's step-down; Barcelona pulled off perhaps their best victory so far; a 2-0 away win over key rivals Juventus in the Champions League. Could this be a sign of things to come? Is Messi & Co. now happy & settled? And will it be back to normal business at Barcelona?
