It is all a far cry from say 30 years ago; when Robinsons was the 'In' store; the go-to store that everyone would flock to. Business was roaring; and it was the main focal point of Centrepoint; a shopping centre that was much more popular back in those days too.
But now; things are different. In the first place; Centrepoint is almost non-existent as a shopping centre; and it is far from the 'main hub' of the place; at Ion Orchard; Takashimaya and even 313 Somerset. There ain't no Kids hang there no more. As such; Robinsons also disappeared from there; and their two other stores at The Heeren & Raffles City Shopping Centre have seen disastrous business lah; with almost no-one going there.
I guess they have just not moved with the times; with their items and image viewed as 'old fashioned' and 'not so happening' anymore. There could be some cultural & traditional values they have to live up to; so there you go. With more modern offerings; plus online retail such as Shopee; Lazada & Taobao; there's just too many options for consumers nowadays.
So who's next on the 'danger zone'? It could be Metro; Marks & Spencer; OG; Times & MPH...
