Similar to their previous showing against Southampton; Everton were decent in possession; but ultimately could not come up with anything creative to worry the hosts; sorely missing the creativity & cutting thrust of missing players Seamus Coleman; Lucas Digne; Richarlison & James Rodriguez.
With a slightly-strange 4-3-3 line-up that featured Gylfi Sigurdsson & Andre Gomes up-front alongside Dominic Calvert-Lewin; Everton were unable to convert their possessional superiority into meaningful chances.
They conceded a slightly-unlucky penalty to Callum Wilson; and the ex-Bournemouth man added a second after Ryan Fraser out-sprinted Yerry Mina in a breakaway late in the game. Newcastle are one of the teams who have bought well over the summer; with Wilson; Fraser; Jeff Hendrick and Jamal Lewis; and unfortunately for Everton; it showed again in today's game.
