Both teams were not at their best; with slow, sideways passing and a lack of creativity and forward imagination typifying the game. However; it must be said that West Ham would be the happier of the two; as they set out to nullify Everton's attacking threat right from the get-go; by packing their defence and displaying good organisation.
There were also outstanding performances from central defender Angelo Ogbonna & defensive midfielder Declan Rice. In the end; Everton had little to show for their efforts; with only a Bernard snap-shot & Seamus Coleman effort to show for their endeavours. Even the latish introduction of forward players James Rodriguez; Andre Gomes & Cenk Tosun could not salvage the situation.
