A New Low

In perhaps the greatest shock in world football history; Germany suffered a shock 2-1 home loss to unfancied North Macedonia; a team ranked only 65th in the world and basically with no hope at all.

Let's get this straight: this is a Germany team that is one of the heavyweights in world football; one of the favourites for the upcoming Euro 2020; boasting the likes of Marc-Andre ter Stegen in goal; Chelsea's Antonio Rudiger & Kai Havertz; the Bayern world-beaters of Joshua Kimmich; Leon Goretzka; Leroy Sane & Serge Gnabry; and Manchester City's in-form midfield playmaker Ilkay Gundogan.

Their troubles and lack of confidence were perhaps best exemplified by out-of-form substitute Timo Werner of Chelsea; who missed a glorious chance for them in the 80th minute before Eljif Elmas' late heroics.

It all represents a new Low for this great football nation; as thoughts now regress to that calamitous 6-0 defeat by Spain not too long ago; and if the Germans had thought of giving their manager a famous send-off after Euro 2020; now it looks like they might want to hasten his departure.
