This was supposed to be the marquee night for the Lakers; the unveiling of their new Big Three of LeBron James; Anthony Davis & Russell Westbrook; the launching of their new project to return to the NBA summit; with an All-Star-looking ensemble that includes veterans Carmelo Anthony; Dwight Howard; Rajon Rondo; DeAndre Jordan; Kent Bazemore; Trevor Ariza & Avery Bradley. The return of Showtime.
Well; nobody told the Warriors; who ripped up the script & produced a masterful performance to stun the Laker faithful. No doubt this is a different Warrior set-up from their dynastic years; gone are the endless movement that gets them open shots. But what they do have is a a strong team spirit and a rather deep team that can yet return them to their glory heights. And in Jordan Poole they have a 'Klay Thompson'-like replacement that came up big in this one.
And when Andrew Wiggins nailed his 'Kyrie Irving-like' three-pointer deep in the game to seal the win; one could feel the air gasp out of the Laker cauldron; at this stunning opening home defeat. The Lakers have a lot of things going for them; but one thing they may not have is the three-point shot. Certainly Russell Westbrook is not gonna be the answer for that problem.
